Although we are approaching warmer months, there is still a bite in the air at times. During the cooler months, who am I kidding all year round I am partial to having a hot chocolate now and then.
In today's blog I am going to share with you the 2 ways I prepare my hot chocolate. One is a simple straightforward version and the second is a more bumped up version. So if you want to see how to do it please keep on reading.
Regular Hot Chocolate (kettle):
I decided to share how to make a simple hot choccie because once you master the simple version you can then change it up to suit your tastes.
Ingredients:
Hot chocolate powder - I am using Maltesers hot chocolate in my recipes.
Mini marshmallows
Carnation evaporated milk
In a cup, take your powder and milk and mix it until they form a paste.
I use evaporated milk in my hot chocolate because I feel it makes it creamier.
Add in your hot water and make sure the paste has fully incorporated with the water and then top it with as many marshmellers (that's what I call them) as you like, the more the merrier. And boom you're done.
Signature Hot Chocolate (hob):
Mini marshmallows
Semi skimmed or whole milk
Condensed milk
Spray cream
Flake
Vanilla extract (optional)
In the cup you're going to use measure out your milk. Then place that milk into a saucepan and heat.
While it's heating up add 2 tablespoons of condensed milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir.
In your cup add you required amount of hot chocolate powder. I like to do 2 heaped tablespoons.
Once the milk is heated add it to your milk and make sure to mix it in well.
Add in your mini marshmellers. When it's a signature hot choc, I like to add pink and white marshmellers.
Finish off the hot choc with spray cream, more marshmellers and a sprinkling of choc powder. I added a flake for a little extra pizazz.
Ways to amp up your hot chocolate:
Nutella. Add a tablespoon to the pan for that rich chocolate
hazelnut flavour.
Coffee. Really intensifies the chocolate flavour.
Dash of cinnamon. You don't taste it but it does add a little oomf.
Syrups. They really liven up the flavour. I.e. toasted
marshmallow, salted caramel, peppermint, coffee, orange etc.
