I have wanted to try a Philly Cheesesteak for the LONGEST time. But unfortunately I can't just hop a plane to New Jersey for the real deal. My sister had the luxury to be in NJ and try a genuine Philly Cheesesteak and raved about it, so decided to replicate one the best I could.
Ingredients:
Rib Eye Steak
Bell Pepper
Onion
Salt and Pepper
Sub Roll
Provolone cheese
The recipe called for Provolone cheese which is not easy to get here in the UK, I looked everywhere and couldn't get my hands on any. So I googled alternatives and decided on Jarlseberg as its a semi hard cheese, with flavour and melts well.
I could only get large rolls at my local Tesco. But cutting it in half was just fine.
Slice your bread.
Slice up your onions and green pepper.
Slice up your steak.
Fry you peppers and onions.
When your peppers and onions are nearly soft, push them to the side of the pan and add the steak. And add your salt and pepper.
Combine the peppers, steak and onions.
I toasted the bun.
I then added the cheese to the bread roll and placed the hot mixture on top of the cheese so it melted.
SERVE!
As I like my meat more seasoned, so I'd leave it marinating overnight.
I'm not the biggest red meat eater, so I don't cook it that often, but this actually turned out quite well.
